Examples of Shirk

Nowadays we see that many countries and people induldge in acts of Shirk. It just seems like you can't prevent it anymore, because you see it everywhere. Whether on TV or in advertisements. You just have to be protected from it.

Knowledge of these situations is required to be able to protect yourself and your loved ones from them. In this article you will see all the situations of Shirk that abounds this time.

1. Voting on men made laws

Voting in democracy is major Shirk | Fitrah Tawheed

In Islam it is not allowed for the Muslim to vote on man-made laws. That is because only Allah makes laws. It is a Attribute of Allah to make laws.

His Attributes are not to be shared with anyone. Sharing one of His Attributes is major Shirk. He is alone in the right to make laws, so whoever shares that role with another commits major shirk.

Reasons why voting is Shirk

  1. Only Allah may make laws, for that is His right. He determines what is right and wrong, and not other people.
  2. The people make halal what Allah has declared haram. And whoever votes for them agrees with those views.

What you worship besides Him are only names that you and your fathers have given, for which Allah has given you no authority. Judgment/Legislation belongs to none but Allah. He has commanded you not to worship anyone but Him, that is the true religion, but most people do not know.”

Adi ibn Hatim reported: I came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, having a cross of gold around my neck. He said, "O Adi! Remove this idol from yourself!" I heard him recite the verse from Surah At-Tawbah: "They have taken their priests and rabbis as gods besides Allah." (9:31) The Prophet said: "As for this verse, they worshiped them, in a way when they made something lawful to them they regarded it as lawful and when they made something unlawful to them they considered it unlawful.”

2. Wearing amulets

Wearing amulets is Shirk | Fitrah Tawheed

Certain objects are worn with the hope that it will do something. It is believed those objects provide health, protection from evil and other provisions. Wearing these with that belief is major Shirk.

Only Allah is The Healer. An amulet can mean nothing, because it can do nothing. There are several amulets that are worn. Think of that little blue eye, hand of Fatima and more.

Every Muslim should reject the idols. That concept is called Kufr bi Taghut. Any amulet out there should not be worn or believed in.

Reasons why wearing Amulets is major Shirk

  1. These objects are worn by people with the belief that it provides protection or good luck. Only Allah is able to offer these to whom He wills.
  2. Muslims should only worship Allah and reject the Taghut. In this case, the Muslims should reject amulets by not wearing them.

Anyone who disbelieves in Allah after he has believed, except who is coerced into it (life is threatened) and in whose heart there is still faith - but whosoever opened his heart to disbelief - upon them is the vengeance of Allah and upon them is a great punishment.

3. Practising magic

Practising magic is major Shirk | Fitrah Tawheed

When we talk about magic where you need help from jinn, this is an act of major shirk. To practice magic requires rituals. These rituals contain matters and acts of disbelief. So it is major Shirk to practice magic.

There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the straight Path is clearly distinguishable from the path that leads astray. Anyone who disbelieves in idols and believes in Allah has grasped a strong hold that will never break. And Allah is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

And verily, We have sent to every community a Messenger (proclaiming): “Worship Allah alone and avoid the one who transgresses. And there are among them whom Allah guided and some for whom the error was justified. So travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied (the Truth).

4. Fortune telling

Fortune telling is major Shirk | Fitrah Tawheed

In Islam it is forbidden to go to a fortune teller. That's because a fortune teller claims to know the future. Believing a soothsayer is major Shirk. No one knows the future except Allah.

Reasons why fortune telling is Shirk

  1. Fortune tellers claim to know the future, but only Allah can do this.
  2. Muslims should reject Taghut and have no interest in them.

5. Calling upon the dead

Calling upon the dead is major Shirk | Fitrah Tawheed

This example of Shirk is more common in Asia and parts of Africa. Calling upon the dead is major shirk. This is because the dead cannot hear or answer you. Only Allah may be invoked. Du'a is a form of worship that belongs to no one except Allah.

Reasons why invocation of the dead is Shirk

  1. Invocation (Dua) is a form of worship. No one answers Du'a except Allah.
  2. A person possesses a high level of love towards the dead, to a level that makes it higher or equivalent to the love of Allah.

And of mankind are those who take others as partners besides Allah. They love them as they love Allah. But those who believe love Allah more. If those who committed iniquity knew, when they see the punishment, (then they would know) that all power belongs to Allah and that Allah is severe in punishment.

6. Not rejecting Taghut

Not rejecting Taghut is major Shirk | Fitrah Tawheed

Idols are widely promoted. Whether in the form of car brands, clothing or commercials. Rejecting idols is a duty in Islam. A lack of it is Shirk and disbelief.

And we understand that people don't always know what some brands stand for. If it is clear, then there should be distanced from it. Wearing the brand Nike is big Shirk when someone is aware of its origin.
